It was the matchup we had all been waiting for in the Play-in tournament. The Golden State Warriors against the Los Angeles Lakers, or Stephen Curry vs. LeBron James, and the game didn’t disappoint.
By half-time, the Warriors looked impressive, finishing with a 13 point lead after Steph shot a buzzer-beating triple. That shot took most of the air out of the Staples Center, but there was still a feeling that so much more basketball was to come. The Lakers switched on their defense after the break, which resulted in offense, and got themselves back into the game.
With 1 minute left, tied at 100 each, the swarming Golden State defense tried their best to shut down all options for a Lakers’ score. The ball was kicked back out to LeBron, and the King threw up a shot from 34-feet, that miraculously splashed through the net. That shot punched the Lakers’ ticket to the NBA Playoffs and set up a first-round series with the Phoenix Suns.
In my opinion, LeBron might have saved the day for the Lakers, but it was their 2nd superstar Anthony Davis that propelled the team back to victory. He was quiet in the first half, but Davis did everything on both ends of the floor in the second. And what seems to be Davis’ trademark with the Lakers is that he continues to make those desperate buckets that the team needed.
The play-in tournament will be done and dusted by Friday night, and the NBA Playoffs begin Saturday.
