The Los Angeles Lakers are now back in control, and one win away from securing their 17th NBA Championship. Game 4’s slug-fest was a must-win for both teams and felt like every possession was an outright battle throughout the night.
LA now has a commanding 3-1 lead in the series over the undermanned and overmatched Miami team. LeBron James didn’t falter from his consistency, finishing the game with 28 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists. At the same time, Anthony Davis put on a defensive clinic shutting down Jimmy Butler and sealed the game with a 3-point dagger.
This would be the 36th time that a team has held a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals. In the 3-1 Finals situation, the series has ended in five games 51.4% of the time (18 instances), in six games 40% of the time (14 instances), and in seven games 8.6% of the time (three instances). Of the previous 35, the leading team has gone on to win the title 34 times. James and the Cleveland Cavaliers are the only exceptions back in 2016 who won three straight games to defeat the Golden State Warriors.
The Lakers will also be suiting up their ‘Black Mamba’ uniforms on Friday night, who are undefeated (4-0) when covered in the dark skin. A perfect statement if LA closes out the series while honoring their great leader, Kobe Bryant, and win a championship in the jerseys he helped design.
Catch you Monday.
