This Friday, the LA Clippers are one win away from their first trip to the Conference Finals. While the Denver Nuggets are holding on for dear life, just as they did with Utah in the First Round. So how can Denver turn this series around?
Game 4 was a frustrating loss for the Nuggets, who are now down 3-1 in the series. Their defense was on point, holding the Clippers to just 96 points. That kind of protection wins games typically, so no annotations there. But it was their offense that lost the game scoring a dismal 85 for the night. If you watch the highlights, you can see the Nuggets were continuously suffocated throughout the night from LA’s defense. The Clippers jumped out to a quick lead from the first tap and coasted to the finish line.
For Game 5, the Nuggets need to bring their firepower and a lot of it. We all know that LA’s defense from Game 4 is going to happen again, and the only way they’ll get around it is by moving quickly on the floor while distributing the ball better between their players. Nikola Jokić was #standard with a double-double for the night, but the team needs more from Jamal Murray and Michael Porter, Jr. Speaking of Porter, the young fella was flaming hot with 15 points on six shot attempts in the first half. Then attempted just two and was subbed out for most of the second half. That was head coach Michael Malone’s mistake, and Porter let him know about it.
It’s a win or go home match for the Nuggets on Friday. Jokić, Murray, and Porter are the keys to unlocking their offense. They are the only ones that can save this team from elimination.
Catch you Monday.
