Every game this week could be considered a life or death scenario for the last four Western Conference teams pushing to get themselves into the Playoffs. This is the final week of seeding games in the NBA restart, and it’s down to the wire.
As the Pelicans and Kings were eliminated from Playoff contention over the weekend, this guaranteed a play-in series. What’s that you ask? It means we have an extra game(s) over the upcoming weekend to determine who gets into the Playoffs. Unfortunately, there’s no play-in series in the East as they’re all locked up.
The Memphis Grizzlies, Portland Trail Blazers, San Antonio Spurs, and Phoenix Suns are all in, fighting for their lives, for that elusive 8th and 9th seed. The NBA announced Sunday that the first game between the eighth-and-ninth-placed teams would take place Saturday at 2:30 pm ET. If the eighth seed wins, it clinches the Playoff berth. If the ninth seed wins, the rematch will take place Sunday at 4:30 ET for the final Playoff spot.
To summarize, every game is crucial in landing a spot in the Playoffs. Memphis, Portland, and San Antonio each have two games left. Phoenix has three. According to NBA.com, the Blazers have the easiest remaining games and the Suns the toughest. But top teams could potentially rest their star players, which adds another element to the equation. Game on!
Catch you Thursday.
