A team that floats under the radar, and who’s quite puzzling to understand, are the Orlando Magic. They win some, they lose some. They’re consistent, then inconsistent. Are the Magic on the right track to success?
Well, last night’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers, it’s taken 10¾ games to find their offense, but they swung back hard in the fourth quarter to defeat the Sixers 112-97. The strong offensive closing to the game came from D.J. Augustin, Aaron Gordon, and Nikola Vucevic. The trio combined for 22 of Orlando’s 32 fourth-quarter points, with Vucevic leading all scorers with 25 for the night.
To dive deeper into this ‘magic bag’ of a team, Orlando has its defensive game secured sitting comfortably with the 3rd best in the NBA. But it’s their offense that needs some massaging. With a 100.6 rating, they are placed with the 2nd worst offensive team in the NBA. But there’s some light at the end of the tunnel.
After failing to score 100 points in any of the first seven games, the Magic have finally gone over 100 in four straight. And with the rumors floating around that they expressed interest in picking up Spurs’ DeMar DeRozan, that definitely will help with their offensive woes. I think it’s a good move for the Magic, as they need a ‘sure-thing’ on offense to compete in this NBA.
Catch you Monday.
