I’m so disappointed in myself. I finally caved in to the hype and featured Issue 10 about the Dallas Mavericks 20-year-old phenomenon, Luka Dončić. But how could I not? This man is unbelievable.
Let me just recap his last couple of games for you. On Monday against the San Antonio Spurs, Luka scored a career-high 42 points, while adding 11 rebounds and 12 assists. With that spectacle, he would become the second player in NBA history to record a 40-point triple-double before turning 21. The only other player to do this would be non-other than LeBron James. Then last night, Luka backed it up with a measly 35 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists in just 25 minutes. He had 22 points in the first quarter!
Luka currently leads the league with 7 triple-doubles for the season, and there have only been 20 so far. The only other players with multiple triple-doubles are LeBron with 5, Russell Westbrook with 3, and Nikola Jokic with 2. He has also reached 300 points, 100 rebounds, and 100 assists over his last 10 games. Making him the 5th player in NBA history to average a 30-point triple-double over any 10-game span. It’s like the stats just keep piling on for this guy.
His basketball ability is outlandish, and I couldn’t resist writing about him. I don’t think we’ve seen anyone like Luka Dončić since LeBron James. But I’ll let Jared Dubin from FiveThirtyEight explain that statement for you.
Catch you Monday.
