Clang. Clang. Clang. Clang. Swish! Thats the only way to explain one of the most remarkable shots in NBA history made by Kawhi Leonard in Game 7 against the Philadelphia 76ers.
This matchup between Toronto and Philadelphia was an ugly shooting performance from both teams. Even Kawhi who’s been averaging 34 points a game on 57 percent shooting had a tough time finding the bottom of the net. To be clear, he was taking good shots throughout the night, but Philly’s defensive foot really came down hard to stop him. He took 30 shots for the night and only made 10. But shooting statistics mean nothing in Game 7’s and that’s how Leonard described it in his post game interview.
Throughout the game, you could tell that this Raptors team were petrified about the pure gravity this game meant to their franchise. The team kept passing the ball around the court with no one wanting to take their open shots. But time and time again, Leonard stepped up to the occasion and secured this Raptors team into the Eastern Conference Finals with that rainbow-arcing 21-footer.
Could this miraculous shot keep Leonard to stay put in Toronto? The further the Raptors go in this Playoff series, the more likely they’ll be able to convince him to stay north of the border. But we’re only halfway through the journey. This next series for the Raptors against the Bucks is the big one. This Bucks team is stacked, rested, and fully determined to destroy anyone in its path. Is Giannis more equipped to guard and stop Kawhi? We’ll find out Wednesday.
Catch you Thursday.
