Back in Issue 13, I broke the news that the Memphis Grizzlies fired former head coach David Fizdale. The news was shocking and rocked the NBA with the drastic, or not so drastic decision in saving their number one superstar, and season.
Since Fizdale has become lazy with all the time off, I’m sure he’s catching up on all the news from this spectacular newsletter. But surprising for him to read, he may not be without a job for much longer. According to Sporting News’ Mitch Lawrence, the Phoenix Suns are headhunting the former head coach to replace interim coach Jay Triano.
There’s not much to cheer about the Pheonix Suns this year, owning one of the worst records in the NBA at 19-44. Looking back, Phoenix fired head coach Earl Watson just three games into this season. The Suns were 0-3 on the court and had tons of drama off it, involving Eric Bledsoe who was ultimately traded to the Milwaukee Bucks to join the ‘Greek Freak’. Coach Watson was canned in the midst of the dysfunction and Triano took over at the helm.
To me, I think it would be a good move for the Suns. The 43-year-old Fizdale had his first crack at an NBA head coach with the Grizzlies and seemed to excel at the job. He led them to a 43-39 record and a playoff appearance which will go down in media history. However, it’s not just the Suns that are interested, the Los Angeles Lakers are also fixated on Fizdale. Even though Luke Walton still has three years remaining on his contract.😑
For a variety of reasons, Fizdale couldn’t make it work in Memphis but he still appears to be generating interest with his talents. I say the Suns have got nothing to lose and should shoot for the sun, to hit the moon.
Catch you Monday.
