As we enter 2018, you could analyze the Dallas Mavericks playoffs push this season as looking not very promising. But recently the Mavericks have started to win – they’ve won four straight now – and have slowly climbed out from the bottom of the Western Conference. Dennis Smith Jr. was the only piece that Dallas added this year, and he’s looking like a player with a lot of promise.
Selected at the ninth overall pick of this years NBA draft, Dennis has shown huge potential this year for the Mavericks. Especially when LeBron James broke the internet earlier this season, stating that Smith should’ve been a Knick and praised the unbelievable talents of the young man.
But on Sunday night, the Mavericks defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 116-113. A team that looks like a strong contender for the NBA playoffs. Smith scored 11 of his 19 points in the final 1:39 which made Dallas close out 2017 with the 4 game winning streak. The Mavericks rookie has had his ups and downs this season, but he fully believes in what the team wants him to do to succeed.
“We drafted him because we think he can be a great player and one of the best players ever to play in a Mavericks uniform.”
Some huge praise from head coach Rick Carlisle, who’s been lucky to mould one of the greatest players to play the game, Dirk Nowitzki.
Catch you Thursday.
