It’s the 25th of December, Christmas Day (if that’s your thing), and it’s one of the NBA’s biggest TV watching days of the year. With some cracker games on, the media has been all over the Christmas Day special, filling internet folds with Christmas top plays, statistics on the big day, and blah blah blah… However I wanted to bring to your attention an article that Wired posted up at 7:00 am, titled: How data saved the Golden State Warriors.
I know, looking through Wired for some NBA media action is a little far-fetched, but to my surprise, I discovered a non-Christmas article and a deep dive into the analytical timeline of how data has moulded itself into the NBA. A company named SportVU started off with 5 guinea pigs in the 2010-11 season: The Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs and finally, the Golden State Warriors. Have a read, while you’re probably sitting on your couch, trying to set up your ‘smart’ present and enjoying some NBA action blaring on the TV.
Merry Christmas to all you lazies out there, and I hope you have the laziest holiday season ever.
Catch you Thursday.
