Giannis Antetokounmpo, from the Milwaukee Bucks, had an absolute stellar game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday night. He finished with a career high 44 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and a ‘game saving’ block. Not bad for a 22 year old in his fifth season in the NBA.
Giannis has completely polished his game over the summer break. Observing him from the sidelines, he demonstrates the ability to maneuver the ball like a top-tier point guard, while combining his speed and athleticism to get to the rim with the ease of a superstar wing. He’s also compounding it all by using his newfound strength to bully defenders inside the paint as if he’s a powerful big man.
He showed all these skills and knowledge on Saturday night and it was a statement game unlike we’ve probably ever seen from Giannis. His stamp on both ends of the court left a permanent mark at the Bradley Center, and his late game heroics from the block on 7-foot Jusuf Nurkic, to his conservative dunk that put Milwaukee ahead were a sign he’s ascended to the absolute peak of current NBA players.
Kobe challenged Giannis this summer with a ‘Mamba Mentality’ to reach the set goal of winning MVP this year. At these early stages, he’s already won.
Catch you Thursday.
